Reminder to US 322 (Conchester Highway) subscribers: The daily, off-peak lane restrictions that have been in place in the U.S. 322 work area will continue through most of 2018. PennDOT will discontinue issuance of weekly news releases for these recurring, routine restrictions, instead sending out periodic reminders such as this. However, we will continue to issue news releases as needed when there are changes to the current schedule and for other information about the project.

U.S. 322 Daytime Lane Closures for Widening Project in Concord Township, Delaware County

February 9. 2018 –  Daytime lane closures will be in place intermittently through most of this year on U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) from U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) to just east of Clayton Park Drive in Concord Township, Delaware County, for construction related to a project to improve and widen the highway, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

Weekdays from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and possibly Saturdays from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, flaggers will direct an alternating single lane of traffic on U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) through various work areas along the 2.6-mile construction zone. These operations will continue through late fall 2018.

Motorists should expect delays on U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) and on northbound U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) approaching U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway), allow extra time for travel through the work areas, or use an alternate route. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Construction began in spring 2017 on the first-of-two mainline projects to widen and reconstruct a 6.7-mile section of U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) from U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) to just east of Route 452 (Market Street) in Concord, Bethel and Upper Chichester townships, Delaware County. The project is scheduled to be completed in late 2020.

J.D. Eckman, Inc. of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor on the project which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds.

Engineering design is advancing for the widening and reconstruction of the eastern section (Section 102) of the highway from just east of Clayton Park Drive to just east of Route 452 (Market Street). Construction bids on this section are expected to open in late 2019.

An additional contract to replace the U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) bridge over the CSX railroad and Bethel Road as well as improvements to the adjacent Bethel Road Interchange is under design.

Detailed information on all the U.S. 322 improvement projects can be found at us322conchester.com.

The two lane section of U.S. 322 in Delaware County is being widened to four lanes with a curbed grass median.
