Tree Killing Emerald Ash Borer is here.  It’s not too late to save your trees

Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) has now been identified in Delaware County and it is something that has to be treated prior to the tree being infected. Once it is infected it is too late.  Several of our Historical Commission members are versed on this and have had their trees treated. It is a very easy process.

Depending on the size, for injections of a tree, it might cost in neighborhood of $ 200 on up per tree.  But if that same tree dies, it might cost in the neighborhood of $ 1,000 to $ 2,000 to cut it down. The death of the tree also affects our environment and property, both esthetically and monetarily.  EXAMPLE   AME Church has four of these ash trees. Do a drive by and see what it might look like if they were not there anymore.

Below are a few helpful and impartial links for EAB.

The top link contains very extensive information.  It also contains reports on what has been done in other municipalities, the one being closest to us…West Chester.  Their program has been in place for a number of years.  The Historical Commission can provide names of good Arborists for a better understanding of this if needed.
